Unfortunately, another Imperial eagle, tagged by satellite transmitters, became a victim of power lines. This time the incident occurred in Azerbaijan, near Georgian border.
Our team members left for the place of destination yesterday to picture and taking off the transmitter.
The bird was tagged in July, 2017, therefore it was on its second migration season. For the past three years, out of 13 young Imperial Eagles tagged by SABUKO, 9 suffered from electrocution, which is approximately 70% in overall.
Notably, dead starlings were found near the eagle on the accident place, which are most likely to be killed by the same reason.
SABUKO has been monitoring Imperial Eagles since 2016.
